The Village of Fontana hosts the annual Independence Day Fireworks display each year on July 4 at dusk at the lakefront. The fireworks shoot off from a barge off Fontana Beach. You can watch this amazing display from the land or on the water.

Dan Green’s Pig in the Park

On a Saturday evening in early July, Fontana’s Reid Park is the site for Dan Green’s Annual Pig in the Park fundraising event. This festival was named for Dan Green, who was a devoted member of our community.

Serving as Fontana Park Commissioner, volunteer firefighter, and a contractor for the Illinois Department of Transportation, Dan tragically lost his life in a construction accident, leaving behind a powerful legacy of entertainment and philanthropy.

In his honor, Dan’s wife, Mary, now spearheads the yearly pig roast fundraiser, which serves BBQ pulled pork, hot dogs, sides, and beverages. There are plenty of activities for kids, such as water tag, face painting, a petting zoo, bounce houses, pony rides, and more!

This is a fun, family-friendly community event with 900 to 1,000 in attendance in recent years. There will be a table ready with your tickets/wristbands, at the event, when you purchase them online. Your generous, tax-deductible donation directly supports the following causes:

Rock the Lake

In mid-July, Rock Central hosts the Rock the Lake concert at Duck Pond Recreation Area in Fontana.

Rock the Lake is not held every year, so check out Rock Central’s website for the latest information.

Rock Central is a non-profit music school located in Lake Geneva. Their goal is to make sure every kid with a desire and passion for music has the opportunity to pursue it. They even offer an adult program! Rock Central’s seasoned instructors provide an avenue for those interested in learning an instrument to be able to do so.

Part of the teaching process involves giving students the chance to perform. Rock the Lake is just that. Students (from kids to adults) fill the opening act slots, followed by a headliner to finish off the evening.

With headlining bands as notable as Kansas and The Guess Who, Rock the Lake is a unique summer celebration that offers thrilling musical performances, a variety of food and beverage providers, on-site parking, and much more!

Tickets are available for online purchase. Proceeds are tax-deductible and go to support Rock Central’s ongoing mission of bringing music to all ages.
